Metro’s advocacy mission in challenging these systemic problems requires a commitment to creating a space for the low-income, marginalized, and unserved and underserved of Fresno County and the Central San Joaquin Valley, and to facilitating their becoming advocates for themselves. Job Description Title: Interim Executive Director (Full-time, exempt) Reports to: The Fresno Metropolitan Ministry Board of Directors Direct supervision of project directors, office and financial managers. Indirect supervision of all employees, interns, and volunteers. Location: 1055 N. Van Ness Ave., Suite H, Fresno, CA 93728. Position Overview The Interim Executive Director of Fresno Metropolitan Ministry works with the Board of Directors, staff, and the communities of the Central San Joaquin Valley to promote social justice and comprehensively healthy communities. The position is anticipated to begin on January 2, 2008, and to continue for up to two years, or until a permanent Executive Director is hired. The Interim Executive Director will oversee a strategic planning process that is expected to result in some changes of administrative structure and duties. We seek a strong leader capable of overseeing significant organizational transformation. The Interim Executive Director will not be a candidate for the Executive Director position. Currently Metro has advocacy programs in the areas of health, hunger and nutrition, environmental quality, and cultural diversity. The Interim Executive Director provides coordination and leadership in the integration and implementation of these programs, as well as ensuring the integrity and relevance of Metro’s work in the wider community. Metro stakeholders look to the Interim Executive Director for guidancegrounded in understanding the needs of the regionfor the growth and expansion of the organization’s advocacy mission. Responsibilities: The Interim Executive Director manages the organization in accordance with the policies of the Board of Directors. The responsibilities of the Interim Executive Director include: • Working with the Board of Directors • Developing and implementing programs • Sustaining community relations and serving as primary spokesperson for the organization • Supervising staff • Developing and monitoring the budget Qualifications: Metro Ministry is a mature organization with highly competent and motivated staff doing critical work in this community. We seek an Interim Executive Director to provide experience and leadership as we tackle our new challenges: the transition after the retirement of our long-term Executive Director; strategic planning to solidify our role and image in the community, and to reduce our reliance on grant funding; and possible relocation of our offices. Required qualifications: • Non-profit sector/religious organizational leadership and administrative experience, at least five years; • Education, BA in a subject area relevant to non-profit leadership and management, social sciences, applied theology, or other relevant field, from an accredited university or college; a relevant master’s degree (such as social sciences, social work, theology, or other preparation relevant to the work of non-profit organizations) from an accredited school, preferred. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Appreciation and understanding for cultural, religious, and other human diversity. Preferred characteristics: • Programmatic experience related to health policy, such as community health advocacy and policy work. • Experience working with ecumenical or inter-faith and multi-faith activities, urban ministry and programming; • Although in the past the Executive Director has been an ordained clergy, this is not required for the Interim Executive Director position.
