Learn More About Us

With over a 50-year history of community action, we continue our work with residents to advocate for positive change in community and institutional systems and policies.

Fresno Metro Ministry is Building Partnerships for Community Well-Being.

Our interrelated food stewardship program areas organized under the umbrella brand of Food to Share are specifically designed and operated to address extreme food hardship, prevent chronic disease, promote healthy food-related economic development, and found and organize a cross-sector policy and action agenda for food-based health in Fresno County include Healthy Food Recovery, Redistribution, and Food Waste Prevention; Community Gardens and Urban Farming; Cooking Matters Nutrition Education and Cooking Skills Classes, and Fresno Food Policy Council Development and Support.

Metro has long been involved in hunger advocacy and improved access to needed services. We are a trusted source of information and resources in many neighborhoods and communities in Fresno, especially amongst our Latino and Southeast Asian populations.  Our outreach and community engagement staff are experienced, bilingual, and culturally competent in order to successfully reach our target populations.  They are also community leaders within their respective communities.

Our Mission & Values

Metro is a 501(c)3 community-benefit organization founded by churches moving out of downtown Fresno to address the social, economic, health and safety issues experienced by children and families that remained in our neglected and disinvested neighborhoods. Metro has evolved to become a multifaith and multicultural organization dedicated to improving the health, environmental quality, economic development and overall resiliency of the San Joaquin Valley.

Our Mission is:

"Learning, Connecting and Engaging to Achieve Healthy People and Healthy Places."

Our Approach

Metro’s outreach efforts are derived from the internationally-acclaimed Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) model in which a community focuses more on its assets than on its deficits in order to improve the quality of life for all in the community.

Our SHALOM-Inspired Inter-Faith Values are:

Wholeness

Completeness

Well-being

Peace

Justice

Prosperity
